Noah Alexander Isaac Stein is a self-taught artist living and working in Portland, OR. Focused on ecstatic paintings that attempt to bridge the divide between artist and viewer through technique and subject, Noah’s art is by turns abstract and representational, frenzied and peaceful, holy and blasphemous.

After coming to Portland to study painting, Noah left his formal art education to complete degrees in psychology and sociology, later working in a psychology research lab and as a political field organizer. Becoming disillusioned in turn with academic research and political organizing, Noah left on a decade-long series of travels through the Middle East, Asia, and remoter parts of North America. During this time Noah developed unconventional techniques of visionary cold wax oil painting, as well as founding international art organization Art Knows No Borders.

A current member of Blackfish Gallery, Noah’s paintings, installations, and written works have been featured locally and internationally. Noah is also a prominent voice for local artists as the president and founder of First Friday PDX.
